I am excited to be a part of the team at Prescott Relationship Center.  I gravitate toward the family systems approach and feel that a family’s distress is not attributable to just one person, but rather a combination of interactions of individual members within that “system.”  Additionally, as one half of a couple for almost 30 years, I know well the pain and distress when there is unresolved conflict. The fear of loss of that relationship can be unbearable.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help create that safe and accepting place, where couples can explore their unspoken, and often unmet, emotional needs. The goals of EFT include creating a secure, loving bond, a renewed intimacy, and a responsive, love relationship.  In EFT, the individual’s inner experience of the relationship-in the moment-is explored within the context of what is happening in the couple relationship overall.

EFT also considers clients’ attachment style, which is often at the heart of conflict and has needs and demands that are often never voiced.  One of the most poignant moments in an EFT session is the moment of softening, when one or both of the individuals hear, not the exhausting back and forth of “the fight,” but the underlying longings and fears of their partner, resulting in real emotional awareness and change; a softening toward their love.

I have worked with diverse populations including those in crisis, adolescent girls at-risk, as well as those in treatment for addiction and substance abuse. I have experience in a hospital setting and have frequently encountered families and individuals in various levels of distress. Additionally, I truly enjoy working with families in therapy. I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the Granite Mountain Psychological Society.
